What is an executor?
An executor is the person stated in the will to be the personal representative of the estate. This means that they will be the person responsible for collecting all of the estate property and inventorying it, locating all the creditors and paying them, and then distributing the remaining property to the people who are entitled to receive it.
This is an important responsibility that you should never undertake lightly. You will be responsible for your actions not only to the heirs of the estate but also the creditors. If you take any improper actions or fail to take care of the matters you are responsible for, then you could be liable to the heirs or creditors. Most of my clients are honored that their friend or family member chose them to be the executor of their will and feel obligated to do it. If so that is great just remember it is an important responsibility.
